22/4/09 – LAST URBAN CUE DAY OUT

April 26, 2009

This week was the last Urban CUE Day Out for 9Y and 9Z.

We were all given the choice of where we wanted to go, and my group did the Fashion, Art and Design City trip. We had to get to Fed Square and meet Mrs Ware to find out what we would be doing that day.

When we arrived, I think we where all expecting a day of going in and out of shops and galleries, learning about them…but when we got there we were given a map, a list of shops we should look in, and told that we could just split into groups, go off by our selves…and shop!

We found some really nice places, and went all over the city. There were High End Design stores like Chanel (there was a butler man there whose job was just to hold doors open for people all day), and Arcades with little places like Retro Star with vintage dresses from the 70’s.

Finally at the end of the day, we all met up back at the Atrium and went to a gallery where St.Leonards student had there artwork on display in a competition. We all voted for their artwork and looked at some of the other schools stuff as well.

Next CUE day out our group will be doing Community, which I’m really looking forward to. Hopefully the next group doing Urban will have as much fun as we did!

Last day of Community Service

April 22, 2009

Today was the last day of doing the Community domain of CUE.

It was Harry and my last day helping at the South Melbourne Mission Kindergarten and it was a little sad to leave! Since our last visit there they got  pet chicks but they hadn’t hatched until today! I witnessed my first chick hatch out of its shell and it was very exciting, even for me.. 🙂 When we went outside to play, most of the kids had soo much energy that they went crazy! Some of them were getting everyone wet by having a water fight with a cloth and a bucket of water, and some just felt like annoying Harry and he had about 3 kids attached to him.. literally! ( I took some photos of the moment) At the end of the day when we said our last goodbyes we got a certificate of appreciation and most of the little girls came running to me and gave me a big hug which made me feel sad that I’d never see them again. Over all it was an enjoyable day and I hope that the people who get to experience S.M.M.K next enjoy themselves as much as I did.

25/3/09 URBAN – The Markets

April 8, 2009

On Wednesday the 25th of March the Urban group went to the markets for the Big Day Out. We arrived at the school gates at an early 4:30AM and went straight to the fish market where we found out about how all the fresh fish is sold.

After that, we went to the flower market, which wasn’t open on that Wednesday but still had a few stalls open selling great flowers really cheap. Then we went over to the fruit and veggies market where we rode the Tutti Fruity train around the circuit and got to learn all about how the fresh fruit and vegetables are distributed. We also were given fresh fruits to try as the train went through all of the stalls.

By that time it was daylight so we headed over to the Yarra River where Mr.Barr cooked everyone breakfast. After a few more trips to various other markets we caught the train home at 12pm so that we could all catch up on sleep!
